David S. Tyler, MA, LPC, NCC is certified by the National Board of Certified Counselors and is licensed by the South Carolina Board of Examiners for Counselors, Therapist and Psycho-
Educational Specialists.
He currently serves as a mental health therapist in the greater Columbia and surrounding areas. He also provides therapeutic services for Richland County School District One RESET program, at Hyatt Park elementary school in Columbia SC. Additionally, he has worked with the Drug Court program in Richland County at Insights Educational and Treatment Services. This program specialized in working with criminal defendants and juvenile offenders with alcohol and drug dependency problems, to help reduce future negative consequences while maintaining a sober lifestyle.
During his years as a student and current role as a therapist he has built a strong reputation for being a visionary leader who always strives to provide fair, respectable, equitable and
empathetic therapeutic services to his clients. David’s personable touch is often unmatched as he takes pride in treating everyone he encounters with respect and dignity. His life experiences
followed by his extensive studies have equipped him with the necessary tools to spark and promote positive change in the mental health community; as well as employ new mental health
strategies. Driven by his desire to be an innovative leader in the mental health field and an advocate for mental health initiatives, he seeks to create relationships in the community that enables him to share his knowledge and ideas to help others achieve their goals by making critical decisions regarding alternative courses of action without outside influence.
His specialty areas include, Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, Substance use, behavioral health, Anger management marital and relationship issues. David therapeutic competencies are eclectic, to include Cognitive behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Rational Emotive Therapy as a base for therapy provided.
A native of Abbeville, South Carolina by way of New York City, he received his Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice from Claflin University in Orangeburg, SC. He later obtained a Masters of Art degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Webster University, based in St. Louis Missouri.
